“Traveling the Oregon Trail by Covered Wagon” will be the topic at the Belfast Historical Society meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, May 20, at the Belfast Free Library, Abbott Room.
Nick Buck of Newcastle will present how he and his brother set off in May 2011 on a 2000-mile, four-month journey to follow the historic and often challenging miles of the Oregon Trail. The brothers left St. Joseph, Mo., in a covered wagon, drawn by three occasionally temperamental mules and arrived in Baker City, Ore. — exhausted and battered, but triumphant. This is their story of overcoming the obstacles encountered along the trail.
Belfast Historical Society programs, which are free and open to the public, are held every fourth Monday of the month, April through October.
