Bar Harbor park designated one of 10 Great Public Spaces for 2012

BAR HARBOR, Maine — The American Planning Association announced on Oct. 3 the designation of Village Green as one of 10 Great Public Spaces for 2012 under the organization’s Great Places in America program.

The association singled out Village Green, part of Bar Harbor’s recreational, cultural and social fabric, for its timeless design, community amenities and year-round events.

“Bar Harbor’s Village Green is at the heart of our community, drawing both residents and visitors into its vital location, ringed by public services, churches, museums, shops and restaurants,” said  Bar Harbor Town Council Chairwoman Ruth Eveland. “It can be a place for peaceful reflection, lifting our spirits with its beauty at every season, and then is full of people gathered for celebration.  The Village Green is truly a living, breathing space in our town,” she said.

Bar Harbor Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Chris Fogg said, “The Village Green has always been a great center for community activities in town. Located in the heart of our town, it is where community members and visitors come together to enjoy a moment of quiet repose or enjoy one of the many local festivals, concerts and fine arts.”
