Bangor YMCA’s Youth Wants to Help Local Organizations by Awarding Mini-Grants

BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor YMCA’s Interact Leaders Club wants to help other local organizations create positive and lasting impact for youths in our community. Using a grant awarded to them by an organization wishing to remain anonymous, this group of service-minded youths is offering $500-$2,500 mini-grants to support start-up projects and organizations that will strengthen the health and welfare of area youths.

Local organizations interested in applying for these grants must propse a project which addresses a demonstrated need or issue facing youths in the Greater Bangor area. The project must be completed by Aug. 1. A narrative summary, story of impact, and any outcome measurements must be provided to the Bangor YMCA’s Intearct Leaders Club by Oct. 1, 2013.

Applications may be downloaded online at http://www.bangory.org/mini-grants. Completed applications must be submitted to Adriana Hopkins by e-mail (ahopkins@bangory.org) or mail to her attention at Bangor YMCA, 17 Second St., Bangor, ME 04401.

Applications must be submitted by Jan. 31; award notification will be sent Feb. 8.

The Bangor YMCA’s Interact Leaders Club is co-sponsored by the Bangor Area Breakfast Rotary and the United Way of Eastern Maine. The Club provides an opportunity for young people in grades 9-12 to develop the leadership and team-building skills needed to make a positive impact in the Greater Bangor Community and beyond. With a focus on community service, the Interact Leaders Club has coordinated events in recent years to raise nearly $7,500 in support of the Cancer Care Center, Africare, the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of America, Water.Org, and Free the Children.

In addition, club members volunteer more than 2,500 hours each year in support of local organizations including Ronald McDonald House, Eastern Maine Medical Center, Bangor Humane Society, and many more.
