BANGOR, Maine — While the dog days of summer mean barbecues and trips to the beach for most, for the staff at the Bangor Humane Society, it is their busiest time of year for animal intakes.
The Bangor Humane Society desperately needs the local community to adopt a shelter pet. Currently, the Bangor Humane Society has more than 100 cats and kittens available for adoption, along with dozens of dogs. They also have a waiting list of 150 cats and nearly 50 dogs needing to be surrendered for rehoming. There also are many more residing in foster care.
In an effort to find new homes for their current adoptive pets and to help the many more waiting in need of rehoming, the Bangor Humane Society is again offering an August Back to School adoption promotion. Cats 7 months and older are only $5, and all large breed dogs 7 months and older are “Name your own fee” with a minimum of $25. Of course, the Humane Society encourages those who can afford to donate more to do so, as all adoption fees go toward the care of the many cats currently in care of the Humane Society. The discount program is effective for the entire month of August.
All animals adopted from the Bangor Humane Society are vaccinated, spayed/neutered and behavior evaluated.
So, on your way home from your next coastal road trip in the sun, stop by BHS and adopt a new fur friend with whom to celebrate the dog days of summer. And, if you have kids that you are getting ready to send back to school, fill your soon-to-be empty nest with a new furry companion. If you can’t adopt, consider making a donation (you can see the agency wish list on the website) and helping to spread the word on all the local homeless pets looking for a home!
The Bangor Humane Society is now asking for help from the public to help find forever homes for all of the pets looking for a second chance.
