Bagaduce Chorale holiday concerts expanded to three

BLUE HILL, Maine — The Bagaduce Chorale will offer three instead of two concerts this year at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 12 and 13; and at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, at First Congregational Church of Blue Hill.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Chorale which was founded by Mary Cheyney Gould in the spring of 1974. This year is also significant because Mary has decided to step down from her role as accompanist to the chorale at the end of the season. To mark this milestone and to celebrate Mary and her incredible gift to both the chorale and to the Down East Maine musical community, Music Director Bronwyn Kortge has programmed a tour de force of contemporary seasonal music. Featured works will be Jonathan Willcocks’ Magnificat and Stephen Paulus’ We Sing Thy Birth both with full brass accompaniment and Mary Cheyney Gould on the Allen Organ. The chorale also will perform “This Christmastide” by Donald Fraser, the a cappella Irish peace blessing “Deep Peace” by Bill Douglas, and there will be the customary carol sing along with Mary Cheyney Gould on the organ.

Suggested donation for all performances is $15, with students admitted free. To reserve seats, call 326-0575. Please arrive early to ensure seating. To learn more about these performances and about the Chorale go to
