The Bagaduce Chorale and Music Director Bronwyn Kortge say “thank you for forty glorious years” to founder, director emerita, and accompanist Mary Cheyney Gould. To celebrate Mary, Director Kortge has created a program of two contrasting parts, one dark, contemplative and yearning, the other full of light, exuberance, and the themes of rebirth and gratitude.
The program includes Sleep by Eric Whitacre, Sure on This Shining Night by Morten Lauridsen, Stars I Shall Find by David Dickau, and Choose Something Like a Star by Randall Thompson.
Two contemporary compositions are the featured works. Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s 2010 Dark Night of the Soul, which explores the interplay of chorus, piano and string quartet, and Karl Jenkins’ Te Deum, scored for chorus, keyboard, horns, strings and percussion, a high-energy hymn of thanksgiving.
