FREEPORT, Maine — Woody Woodward was honored with the 2012 Innkeeper of the Year Award by the Maine Innkeepers Association at its 91st annual meeting and conference held Nov. 5-6 in Newry, Maine. Woodward received the award from Peter Daigle of Lafayette Hotels. The prestigious award is made annually to recognize an innkeeper who has contributed to the development of the association.
Woodward started his first business at age 17 and incorporated it at 20. He had a varied career, including employment as a magician, deputy sheriff, police officer, owner of a promotional marketing and events agency and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation of Maine. Woodward’s career in the lodging industry began in 1997, when he and his wife Deanna became innkeepers and owners of Highland Lake Resort.
Woodward served on the association board of directors for nearly 10 years and served as president in 2010 and 2011. He also has served on the Bridgton Board of Selectman, and is serving as board chairman until 2015.
