Artist Paul Alexandre John will discuss his artwork and give a performance of Indian classical music on bamboo flute at the Blue Hill Public Library on Saturday, November 16th at 1:00 PM. This talk is being held in conjunction with Paul’s current show at the Library, Paul Alexandre John: A Painter’s Life. The show features samples of his work in oils and acrylics over the past four decades.
Paul studied painting, sculpture, printmaking, and life drawing at Claremont Art School in Australia, where he received a diploma in fine arts, and also taught as a professor of bamboo flute. In 1981, Paul moved to United States where he has continued to practice both disciplines. As an Indian classical flutist, Paul has been composing, developing new flute prototypes, and performing in concerts and has recorded three CDs to date.
As an artist, his styles and themes have cycled through numerous realms, including those of the imaginative and the allegorical, of baseball, carpets, and the ocean. Paul has been commissioned to provide artwork for a number of schools in Maine. He is represented in many collections around the world, including the Embassy of Armenia in New Delhi, India.
Paul’s work may also be viewed at www.paulalexandrejohn.com. The exhibit is available for viewing during library hours through November 30th. For more information, call the library at 374-5515.
