NORTHERN, MAINE — Acadia Federal Credit Union will kick off their annual Ending Hunger Campaign Raffle on Friday, Nov. 3.

More than 175 local businesses and organizations have donated nearly 200 prizes which will be raffled off during the month of November. Four weekly drawings will be held and more than 40 prizes will be handed out each week. To culminate the event, a Grand Prize Drawing for a Rocking Chair (donated by Michaud Furniture) and a Milwaukee Combo Tool Set (donated by Quigley’s Building Supply) will take place December 1st.

In its 23rd year of operation, the Campaign for Ending Hunger is a statewide program that was created by the Maine Credit Union League in the true credit union spirit of “people helping people.” Since its creation in 1990, Maine’s credit unions have joined together and helped raise $4.3 million dollars with 100% of those funds staying in Maine.

In 2011, the local community helped Acadia FCU raise and donate $10,000 to local food banks and pantries and they hope to exceed that amount this year. Tickets go on sale November 3rd, and will sell for $1 each or $5 for 7. Tickets can be purchased at any one of Acadia Federal Credit Union’s branch locations in Fort Kent, Madawaska, St. Agatha, or St. Francis.

All those proceeds stay local and benefit the food pantries of the St. John Valley.
