AUGUSTA, Maine — The 17th annual Maine Tax Forum is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 6 and 7, at the Augusta Civic Center. The forum will cover Maine and Federal tax developments, case law developments, ethics, new IRS initiatives and other topics of current interest for tax advisers.
Charles Colgan will be the keynote speaker talking about the” Maine and National Economic Outlook”. Dr. Colgan is chairman of the USM Program in Community Planning & Development and is a professor of public policy and management at the Muskie School of Public Service. He is a former Maine State Economist.
A new feature presentation this year is a panel discussion on the Affordable Care Act implications for tax practitioners. A panel of experts will explain this complex new law.
Another featured speaker is Karen Hawkins, director of the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility, who will talk on the Internal Revenue Service’s “Rules of Engagement.”
Attendance at the Maine Tax Forum will provide CLE and CPE credits.
SCORE Maine, a district of the national organization of volunteers helping small businesses, has replaced Maine Revenue Services as host of the Maine Tax Forum. Maine Revenue Services continues to support the program by providing expert speakers in areas of interest to participants.
