|Wheaton College||University of New England|
BIDDEFORD, Maine — Megan Healy (JR/Huntington, N.Y.) provided the scoring on a penalty kick, and goalkeeper Leann Wolf (SO/Santa Maria, Calif.) kept the University of New England off the scoreboard with seven saves, as Wheaton College earned a 1-0 shutout over the Nor’easters in a non-conference women’s soccer match Tuesday evening (Sept. 13) at Barbara J. Hazard.
In a battle of previously-undefeated squads, the Lyons improved to 5-0 while UNE fell to 3-1.
The lone goal of the contest came after the Nor’easters were whistled for a tripping foul in the box. Healy stepped up to the dot and drove a low shot inside the left post for her team-best fifth marker of the young season.
That tally would stand up despite UNE out-shooting Wheaton 17-7 over the course of the evening, thanks in large part to the efforts of Wolf in goal. She had a couple of brilliant stops — the first one coming on a blast from Taylor Littlefield Langevin (SR/Sanford, Maine) in the 35th minute, as Wolf sprawled to her left to deny the shot from just inside the box. Wolf added another big stop in the second half when she jumped to her left to parry a shot from Becca Murphy (JR/Durham, N.H.) just over the crossbar.
Wolf earned her second shutout of the season and has yet to be scored upon in 270 minutes of action.
Brielle Robinson (SR/Monson, Mass.) has three saves for UNE, including a diving stop of a bid by Wheaton’s Noelle Perciballi (FY/Fort Salonga, N.Y.) in the 18th minute.
In addition to leading in shots, the Nor’easters nearly doubled-up the Lyons in corner kicks (9-5).
