BIDDEFORD, Maine – Troy Remillard (Palmer, Mass.) registered a goal in each half to lead Western New England University to a 3-0 decision over the University of New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s soccer opener on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 16) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

Winners of three straight, the Golden Bears (5-1) received a 15th-minute tally from Remillard to gain the edge on the scoreboard, and the visitors held that margin into the break.
In the 65th minute, Nick Liccardi (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) sent Remillard in behind the UNE back line for some insurance, and 2:39 later, Nick Kubacki (Belchertown, Mass.) found the back of the net to add to the lead. Logan Pingree (Middletown, Conn.) assisted on Kubacki’s marker.
Sam Brewer (Westford, Mass.) picked up his second shutout of the season with four stops for WNEU, while his counterpart, Nathan Delesdernier (Niantic, Conn.), made six saves for UNE.
The Nor’easters (1-5) hit the road on Monday (4 p.m.) to take on the University of Southern Maine.
