BIDDEFORD, Maine – Danielle Dixon‘s (Plainville, Conn.) goal in the 19th minute was all that Western New England University needed for a 1-0 women’s soccer victory over the University of New England in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 16) at Barbara J. Hazard Field

The win makes it three in-a-row for the Golden Bears, who improve to 3-2-1. UNE suffers its first setback in four matches to drop to 4-2.
Dixon scored by striking from 25 yards out, finding the top left corner of the cage. Marielle Caron (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was credited with an assist on the play by finding Dixon on the outskirts of the penalty box.
Alex Lemekha (Stamford, Conn.) made eight saves for the Golden Bears, on way to her third shutout this season.
Emily Ashman (Madison, Conn.) racked up six saves for the Nor’easters, who return to the pitch on Sunday (12 p.m.) with a visit to Bates College.
