NORTHFIELD, Vt. — Amanda Conway and Adriena Rossini each scored a pair of goals to power the sixth-ranked Norwich University women’s ice hockey team to a 7-1 New England Hockey Conference win over the University of New England Friday evening (Feb. 10) at Kreitzberg Arena.
The victory upped the Cadets’ record to 16-5-1 overall and 12-2-0 in conference play, while UNE slipped to 8-12-2 (5-8-1 NEHC).
Sarah Schwenzfeier scored early in the contest to give Norwich a lead it would never relinquish, and Rossini notched her first of two markers late in the frame to give the hosts a 2-0 cushion heading into the first intermission.
Bryn Labbe made the score 3-0 midway through the second period before Rossini struck late in the frame for a 4-0 lead.
Conway sandwiched a power-play goal and short-handed tally around a score by UNE’s Gabby Crugnale before Kim Tiberi tacked on another Norwich goal with three ticks on the clock. Crugnale scored on the power play for the seventh time this season, finding the cage with a shot from the top of the left face-off circle. Julianne Sheehan and Mary Wirth assisted on the play.
Tiberi had a goal and three assists to record a four-point evening, while also registering a rating of +5 during her ice time for Norwich, which built a 48-15 advantage in shots on goal.
Laurie King collected her 14th win of the season with a 14-save performance. UNE’s Sydney Helmbrecht had 39 stops in nearly 52 minutes of action before being relieved by Caty Flagg, who came on to make a pair of saves.
The Nor’easters will conclude their Vermont swing tomorrow afternoon (3 p.m.) when they face Castleton University on Senior Day at Spartan Arena.
