HARRISVILLE, R.I. — Nichols College scored a goal in each period en route to a 3-1 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s ice hockey game played Saturday afternoon at Levy Rink.
The win pushed the Bison (8-3-2, 6-1-1 CCC) atop the CCC standings with 14 points. The Nor’easters dropped back to the .500 mark at 5-5-1 (4-4-1 CCC).
Matthew Menta gave Nichols a lead it would never relinquish early in the contest, scoring his third goal of the year at 3:53 of the first frame.
The Bison would double their lead late in the middle period while a skater short. Michael Parnell tallied what would be the eventual game-winner at the 18:21 mark.
Nichols made the score 3-0 on Sean Swansen’s goal midway through the third period before Dylan Bengtson prevented the Nor’easters from being blanked with a goal with just over a minute to play.
Goaltender Colin Brennan picked up his seventh win of the season with 41 saves, while Tate Sproxton had 29 for UNE, which had a 42-32 advantage in shots.
