PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The Unity Rams (6-4-1) would make one goal stick and steal a victory from the UMPI Owls Men’s Soccer team (2-8) on Homecoming and Senior Day.
The Owls honored the contributions of Sean Barbosa (SR, Caribou, ME), Brandon Fuller (SR, St. Albans, ME), Mike Guerrette (SR, Presque Isle, ME), and Matt Manter (SR, Caribou, ME). The four seniors played their last home game at Park Family Field.
The deck was stacked against the Owls in the early going when a red card in the 17th minute would force them to play a man down for the remainder of the afternoon. Despite the disadvantage, the Owls would fend off the Rams for most of the afternoon, giving themselves a chance to get the decision.
The Rams would get their goal in the 30th minute. Drew Linder was able to get a clean look at goal and took advantage.
The Owls would continue to hang tough, as Manter would end up with three saves on the afternoon, but they could not convert on their opportunities. The Owls would drop their fourth consecutive decision.
UMPI will be on the road next weekend, as they will play at Central Maine Community College at 2 pm on Saturday.
