SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine– The Southern Maine Community College women’s basketball team defeated the Lady Rams of Unity College 77-32 at the HUB in a North Division Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) contest on Thursday.
It was a career night for two SMCC women—first-year Emily Hogan (Jay, Maine) and sophomore Emily Keene (Livermore Falls, Maine). Hogan set a new mark leading all scorers in the game with 17 points, while Keene went for 13 adding seven rebounds. First-year Kaylah Abdul (South Berwick, Maine) flexed her muscles netting 14 points, pulling down eight rebounds.
Senior Jennifer Gendron (South Portland, Maine) has combined for 28 rebounds in two games against Unity this season, recording 10 in this contest.
The SeaWolves also set a benchmark in rebounding notching a season-high 63, 35 offensive. Abdul gave her team an early lead on the first bucket of the game, an advantage SMCC would never surrender. In shooting 36 percent from the floor and assisting on 16 of 31 makes, the SeaWolves rolled to a 45-point victory.
The SMCC women improve to 12-1 in conference play, and 21-2 overall. The Lady Rams fall to 1-13 overall.
