|University of New England||Salve Regina University|
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The No. 1 seed University of New England will host the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Field Hockey Championship for the fourth year in a row after claiming a commanding 7-1 victory over No. 4 seed Salve Regina in the CCC Semifinals. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
The Nor’easters will face No. 3 seed Western New England, which came away with a 3-2 win on the road against No. 2 seed Endicott.
The Nor’easters grabbed a goal early from junior Hannah Buckley (Leominster, Mass.) before Salve Regina was able to equalize. The two-time defending CCC Champions then went on a run of six unanswered goals to punch their ticket to the Championship game.
Endicott and Western New England went back and forth in the first half as each team scored a pair to send the game into the second act tied at two. Freshman forward Jacqueline Clark (Auburn, Mass.) broke the deadlock in the 60th minute to earn the Golden Bears their first trip CCC Field Hockey Championship game.
UNE won both matchups with Western New England during the regular season. Early in the year the Nor’easters had a dominating 7-0 win at home. The meeting in Springfield was a lot closer as the University of New England won 1-0.
The winner of Saturday’s Championship game will receive the conference’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA DIII Field Hockey Championship.
