BIDDEFORD, Maine — The University of New England and New England College each scored once during the 2nd period and finished with a 1-1 overtime draw in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women’s ice hockey action Friday night (Jan. 26) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
It was the Pilgrims (2-16-2, 1-6-1 NEHC) who struck first at the 13:02 mark of the middle frame, as Katie Donohue (Yarmouthport, Mass.) stuffed in her own rebound at the right post. Tara Turcotte (Huntington Beach, Calif.) and Alexa Scribner (Falmouth, Mass.) were credited with assists on the play.
That cushion lasted 5:56 before the Nor’easters (7-6-7, 2-2-5 NEHC) pulled even. Working along the boards, Shannon Upton (Bourne, Mass.) freed the puck for Kyra Yu (Ogden, Utah) to curl around the back of the net and slip a pass through the crease to where Annie Mullen (Concord, N.H.) punched it home.
Caty Flagg (Methuen, Mass.) made four stops in the extra session, including a point-blank breakaway try, to close with 21 saves for UNE. Her NEC counterpart, Jacqueline Clark (Dorchester, Mass.), denied 43 shots.
