MILTON, Mass. — Alex Kravchuk (Mansfield, Conn.) poured in a season-best 23 points on 10-of-12 field goals to guide the University of New England to a 100-72 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s basketball win over Curry College on Tuesday night (Jan. 16) at Katz Gymnasium.

It was the third straight outing with a new scoring high for Kravchuk, who posted the most efficient shooting performance by a UNE player in nearly nine years. He also picked up five steals in the contest.

The Nor’easters (6-9, 4-4 CCC) received an additional 15 points on 5-of-7 accuracy from Ryan Matthews (Park Ridge, N.J.), and nine points with four assists out of Gavin Dibble (Greenport, N.Y.). Daron Hoges, Jr. (West Orange, N.J.) and Matt Hobbs (Anchorage, Alaska) each recorded nine points, as well, and shared the team-lead in rebounds with eight.

UNE secured a 62-43 advantage on the glass, which included 28 offensive caroms that led to 32 extra shots compared to Curry.

The Colonels (1-15, 0-9 CCC) were paced by 21 points and six boards from Jared Thorpe-Johnson. Jeff Card added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Kieran Carroll had nine points with a game-high nine rebounds.

The Nor’easters never trailed in the match, and built the cushion into double digits for good at the 3:44 mark of the 1st half (39-28). The spread was 49-32 at the break.
