BRUNSWICK, Maine — Brady Fleurent (Biddeford, Maine) gave the University of New England men’s ice hockey team its only lead of the night with 6:13 left in the 3rd period, as the Nor’easters clipped Bowdoin College by a 3-2 margin on Tuesday (Nov. 21) at Watson Arena.

UNE (3-3-1) trailed twice in the contest, but recorded the lone goal in the final frame and survived a 52 seconds of a 5-on-3 Bowdoin power-play moments later to hang on for the victory.

Ben Churchfield (Newcastle, England) logged 24 saves to get the goaltending decision for the visitors.

The teams split power-play tallies in the 1st, between Bowdoin’s Daniel McMullan and UNE’s Tucker Ross (Ashburn, Va.).

Things were still even at 1-all entering the last minute of the 2nd, when Ronnie Lestan found the back of the net for the Polar Bears at the 19:03 mark. Where Bowdoin’s first lead was just shy of six minutes, this one only stood for 47 seconds, before Tyler Seltenreich (Littleton, Colo.) pulled the Nor’easters back level at 2-2.

Both Fleurent and Seltenreich had two points on the evening, assisting when the other scored.

Alex Zafonte turned aside 26 shots between the pipes for Bowdoin (1-2).

UNE returns home on Saturday (4 p.m.) for a non-league duel against the University of Southern Maine.
