MACHIAS, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (1-9) saw a late lead evaporate as the University of Maine at Machias Clippers (7-8-2) struck twice late in the game to steal a 2-1 victory.
After playing to a scoreless draw in the first half, the Owls would take the lead in the 60th minute. Jordi Legassie (JR, Presque Isle, ME) scored her second goal of the season. Allie Lopez (SR, Kingfield, ME) would have a strong showing, racking up ten saves, but the Clippers would break through late.
Dara Economy (SR, Perry, ME) would get an assist from Emma Parker (JR, Clinton, MA) to tie the game in the 80th minute. Economy would set up Megan Fromwiller (SR, Sanford, ME) for the game winner just two minutes later, as her shot would deflect off the fingertips of the UMPI keeper and into the net. Machias would hold on and take the 2-1 victory at home.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Fort Kent. That game is scheduled for 1 pm. Wednesday will mark senior day and the last home game for UMPI Women’s Soccer of the season, as they play host to Husson University at 3:30 pm.
