TOPSHAM, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls Softball team (1-1) kicked off their season with a doubleheader against the Beavers of the University of Maine at Farmington (1-1). The two teams would split the twin bill, with the Owls winning the first one 4-2 before the Beavers would take the second game 6-1.
Game 2 – UMF 6, UMPI 1
Despite doubling their hit total from the first game, the Owls would only be able to plate one run as they left 12 runners on in the contest. Peers would drive in the only run for UMPI in the seventh with a single into center field.
Farmington would score one in the second, three in the third, and two in the sixth. They would collect 13 hits and have four players with a multi-hit game. Margaret Fogarty (JR, Auburn, ME) would lead the attack going three for four with two RBI, two runs scored, and a double. Kylie Cunningham (SO, Bangor, ME) would also go three for four with a run scored. Skyler Watson (FR, Chelsea, ME) would get the win, allowing just four walks and striking out two. The run she allowed was earned.
For the Owls Peers, Jordi Legassie (SO, Presque Isle, ME), Williams, and Ayana Walker (FR, Columbus, GA) would collect two hits in the game. Packard would toe the rubber in the second game and take the loss. Five of the six runs were earned, but she would walk just one while striking out five.
