NEW YORK – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Baseball team (2-22) got swept in CUNYAC action this weekend. The College of Staten Island, Baruch College, and John Jay College would all win both ends of doubleheaders on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Saturday, Game 2 – CSI 13, UMPI 3
The Owls would jump on the board early in the second game of the day. Matt Curry (JR, Caribou, ME) would drive in a run with a single up the middle and Will Stinson (FR, Skowhegan, ME) would knock in two more with a single to left. The Dolphins offense would take over from there and a five-run fourth inning would blow the game open. In that big inning the Owls looked to have a way out with no damage as with two on and one out, they would get a big strike out by UMPI starting pitcher Martin Egan (FR, East Bridgewater, MA). Frank Muzzio (JR, Staten Island, NY) would deliver a clutch two RBI double to deep right. An error and two more hits would score three other runs. The UMPI offense would not be able to get anything going the rest of the afternoon while CSI would continue to put pressure on and build a lead.
Stinson would lead the Owls with a two for three effort, which included two RBI.
