Southern Virginia UM-Presque Isle
5 4

The Owls were turned away in the seventh with the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position. Down two, with one out, Emma Gogan (FR, Truro, NS) would single to start the rally. Sara Packard (JR, St. Albans, ME) would follow that up with a single of her own. With two outs, Ayana Walker (FR, Columbus, GA) ripped a single to right to drive in a run, and advanced to second to put herself in scoring position. The Knights’ Megan Stapley (FR, Alpine, UT) would work out of the jam, getting a fly ball to center to end the game and seal the victory.

SVC would take an early lead in the game, with two-outs a single would drive in a run, but an error would extend the inning and allow another run to score. The Owls would respond in the top of the third when Packard would rip a two-run homerun to left center to tie the game. An Ariel Williams (FR, Frisco, TX) double in the fourth would drive in a run and put the Owls up for the first time in the game.

That lead would be short-lived as an infield single and an error would start the Knight half of the fourth inning off. With one out, Heather Terranova (FR, Whittier, CA) would rip a single to tie the game, and a sacrifice fly would give SVC the lead. Megan Harmon (FR, Buena Vista, VA) would double to right center, driving in Terranova, and giving the Knights a much-needed insurance run. Southern Virginia would only get one more baserunner in the game on an error.

Gogan would finish two for three with a run scored. Packard would also collect two hits, including the two-run homerun. Jackie Peers (FR, Limestone, ME) would go two for four in the game.

Packard took the loss, despite just two of the five runs being earned. Stapley would strike out six in the win.
