BOSTON, MA – The Owls Baseball Team (4-28) ended their regular season schedule this weekend with two doubleheaders. UMPI would split the Friday games with Dean College, winning the first game 7-4 before falling 8-4 in the nightcap. The Owls would then visit Mass Maritime (12-16) and see an early lead slip through their hands in game one, falling by a score of 13-7. A furious comeback effort in game two would fall short and the Buccaneers would take a 7-6 victory.
MMA 7, UMPI 6
The Owls would find themselves down early, and eventually end up having to fight back from a 7-0 deficit. In the fifth inning they would start that comeback by getting two on with no one. Cauchon would single to drive in the first run of the game for the Owls. Curry knocked a double down the line in left to plate two more runs and Garcia would later score on a wild pitch to pull within three runs.
UMPI would get their next chance in the seventh inning. Cauchon, Garcia, and Curry would lead off the inning with singles to load the bases, putting the tying run on base, forcing the Buccaneers to go to the bullpen. Jackson Simone (FR, Seattle, WA) would come on and get a strike out for out number one. The Owls would get a run on a ground ball that would result in the second out of the inning. After Nunez would draw a walk with the bases loaded, Simone would get the third out of the inning with a fly ball, ending the UMPI comeback effort.
Cauchon and Garcia would each end up with three hits in the game. Curry would go two for four with two RBI.
