NEW YORK – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Baseball team (2-22) got swept in CUNYAC action this weekend. The College of Staten Island, Baruch College, and John Jay College would all win both ends of doubleheaders on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.
Sunday, Game 1 – BC 10, UMPI 2
The Baruch College Bearcats (9-10) would collect three hits and two runs to take an early lead in the first. The Owls would respond in the third when Brad Patterson (FR, Harker Heights, TX) would triple to lead off the inning. He would score on Matt Cauchon‘s (JR, Kingston, MA) single to right to cut the lead in half.
The bottom of the third would spell trouble for UMPI. After a leadoff single, a misplayed pop up in the infield would set runners up on first and second with no one out. Back-to-back doubles would plate three runs, and a one-out double steal would add to the lead. The Owls would not be able to come up with the big hit to get them back into the game as they would leave runners on base in every remaining inning of the game. They would get one in their last ditch effort off of a sacrifice fly from Curry.
