NORTHBOROUGH, MA – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls Baseball team (1-14) took on the host Anna Maria College in a five game series over the weekend. The AMCats would win the first four games before UMPI would avoid the sweep with a 22-10 win.
Game 4 – AMC 10, UMPI 9
A four-run second and a three-run fourth had the Owls looking in control of the fourth game. Angel Morales (FR, Windsor, CT) would deliver a two-RBI single in the second for the Owls, while Fast would double in the fourth to drive in two, helping UMPI build a lead.
A four-run fourth would get the AMCats back into the game. The Owls would add a couple of runs in the fifth, but would not be able to hold their lead. In the bottom of the sixth Anna Maria would get a leadoff double off the bat of James Marcello (SR, Mansfield, MA). After a hard line out, the home team would string together three hits to put the pressure on the Owls’ defense. An error would pull the AMCats to within two, and an errant throw with two outs would plate two runs, tying the game heading into the seventh. The Owls would get nothing in the top half, and a single and an error set up Jonathan Roy (SR, Worcester, MA) for the dramatic finish. On an 0-2 count he would drive a liner into the right center gap, plating the winning run.
Curry would end the game three for three with an RBI and a run scored. Fast would go two for four with a double, a run scored, and two RBI, while Sanderson would end the game two for three with a run scored and two RBI.
