AUGUSTA, ME – The shorthanded University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (3-14) would not be able to repeat their performance from the previous night. Their offense would never really get going, allowing the University of Maine at Augusta Moose (16-3) to cruise to a 77-42 victory on Thursday night.
The Owls would hit on just 17 of their 71 attempts from the floor, and only one of their 12 attempts from three-point range. Meanwhile the Moose would shoot 44.9% for the game, allowing them to open up a big lead early. Maine-Augusta would start the game on a 12-0 run, and open up a 20-6 lead after the first quarter.
The Owls would rally to start the second quarter, and an 11-2 stretch in favor of the road team would put UMPI down by just five. UMA would slam the door on that comeback, outscoring the Owls 17-4 for the rest of the half, taking a 19-point lead at intermission.
From there the shooting woes would continue and the Moose would enjoy leads of 20+ points throughout the second half. UMA would cruise to the 35-point victory.
Sidney Moore (FR, Dixmont, ME) would lead all scorers with 17 points. Caitlin LaFountain (JR, Topsham, ME) ended with a double-double for the Moose, scoring 15 points and collecting 12 rebounds.
The Owls were paced by Marissa Reagle (FR, Seattle, WA) who would score nine points, collect 12 rebounds, and add four assists, and five steals. Jessy Dickison (SR, Houlton, ME) would score seven points and grab six rebounds.
The Owls will be at home Sunday afternoon as they host Fisher College. That game will kick off a Women’s-Men’s doubleheader starting at noon
