BANGOR, Maine – Husson University Baseball Team (5-8) swept non-conference in-state rival, University of Maine Presque Isle (2-18), 5-1 and 6-2, in a doubleheader at Harold Alfond Diamond at Dr. John W. Winkin Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Game 1 Husson 5, UMaine-Presque Isle 1 (9-Innings)
How it Happened:
The Owls scored the first run of the game in the 5th inning in thanks to an Angel Morale (Windsor, Conn.) RBI-single up the middle to score Jordan Hanscom (Lincoln, Maine).
The Eagles responded in the sixth inning as Luke Covey (Milton, Vt.), with the bases loaded, hit an RBI-single to left field that brought home Nick Guerrette (Hermon, Maine) and Alex Chapman (Westford, Vt.) to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Husson added a run in the 7th inning when Guerrette grounded out to the shortstop and Mike Wong (Lewiston, Maine) scored, extending the lead to 3-1.
The Green and Gold finished off the scoring with two more runs in the 8th after Stefen Strachan (Nassau, Bahamas) reached on a fielder’s choice to allow Covey score.Tyler Young (Old Town, Maine) scored on a pass ball to make the final score 5-1 in favor of the home team.
