PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women’s Soccer Team (4-5-2) visited Daniel Webster College (0-10) and needed a late goal to snatch a 4-3 victory on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles’ Megan Blongy proved to be a thorn in the side of the Owls all afternoon.  She would score the first goal of the game in the 15th minute, putting the home team up and putting the pressure on UMPI.  The Owls were up to the challenge however, and would get many looks on goal.  UMPI peppered shots at the home team’s goal, getting 23 chances in the first half and would finally connect in the 37th minute when Deliah Schreiber would tie the game with an assist from Samantha Nadeau.  The two teams would go intermission tied at one.

The second half would proceed in similar fashion, with the Owls continuing their assault on goal.  In the 58thminute UMPI would take their first lead of the game when Morgan Roy  would connect on her second goal of the season.  Daniel Webster would answer back, as Blongy would score her second goal of the game in the 71st minute to tie the game, and then give the home team the lead once again when she found the back of the net with her third goal in the 80th minute.  That lead would be short-lived as the Owls answered immediately.  Nadeau would score a goal just 58 seconds later and the game would be locked in a 3-3 tie with time winding down.  The Owls would keep the pressure on and get several opportunities to take the lead.  Finally, in the 89th minute, Nadeau would find Carla Halvorson who would score the eventual game winning goal, giving the Owls a 4-3 win on the road.

The Owls would record a remarkable 53 shots in the match, 31 of them on goal.  Eagles’ keeper Stephanie Evans  would be credited with a tough-luck loss for Daniel Webster, as she recorded 27 saves in a fantastic effort that saw the game go down to the final minutes.
