PRESQUE ISLE, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls Men’s Basketball team (5-4) had to hold off a late comeback from the Coast Guard Academy (3-5) to win their fourth straight by a score of 82-78.

The first 11 minutes would feature seven lead changes as the two teams looked to be evenly matched.  UMPI’s defense would allow them to pull away as they would go on a 17-2 run in a four-minute span that would put the Owls ahead for the rest of the game.  While Coast Guard would recover, the visitors would take a 45-32 lead at the half.

UMPI would continue to maintain a double-digit lead throughout the second half.  With 1:42 left in the game, the Owls would open up their biggest lead, an 81-63 score.  The Bears would show their resiliency, and force seven UMPI turnovers in the last stretch (the Owls totaled just twelve for the game).  A 15-1 run would give the Bears a chance in the end, but time would run out on the home team, and the Owls would hold on to take the decision.

The Owls were efficient, shooting 53.6% from the floor and seven of 21 from three-point.  The Bears would outrebound UMPI 47-31, including grabbing thirteen offensive rebounds.  Coast Guard would shoot 43.9% for the game, which included five of thirteen from behind the arc.

The Owls would get key contributions from up and down their roster.  Kevin Collins (JR, Oxon Hill, MD) would lead all scorers with 21 points while grabbing five rebounds.  Derek Healy (SR, Hanover, MA) would add 18 points and four rebounds, while Jordan Cook (SR, Saffron Walden, UK) would score twelve points and collect five rebounds off the bench.  Maurice Harris (JR, Miami, FL) scored eleven, and had seven rebounds and three assists.  Anthony Chacho‘s (JR, Watertown, CT) day included nine points, four assists, and four steals, while Kim Collins (SR, Oxon Hill, MD) would score five, grab four rebounds, block six shots, and dish out six assists.
