SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine.— The Southern Maine Community College women’s soccer team suffered a 3-1 loss on Sunday, Oct. 2 to the Clippers of the University of Maine- Machias, a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) divisional opponent.

The Clippers stood in control much of the first half, netting three goals and one minutes before halftime whistle to claim a 3-0 advantage. All three goals were the result of breakaway opportunities getting in behind the SMCC defense. Machias’ Sarah Klien scored one and Claudia Seanez with two.

The Lady SeaWolves came out in the second half full of energy and jumped on the scoreboard at the 47-minute mark with a goal off the foot of first-year Taylor Currier (Naples, Maine). Currier broke free of two Clipper defenders to find the back of the net for her third goal of the season. The SMCC offense recorded 20 shots in the match, but could only capitalize on the lone goal.

In her goal keeping debut, Sophomore Emily Harris (Dayton, Maine) recorded five saves on eight shot attempts for SMCC.

The Lady SeaWolves now stand at 1-3 in conference play and 3-5 overall.

Sophomore Hannah Fields (Shapleigh, Maine) has tallied 52 total points thus far in her SMCC career, 25 this season, and ranks second all-time in this category. With three regular season games remaining, she needs just five points to move into first place.
