Uniontown, Pennsylvania—The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s basketball team was eliminated from the championship bracket of the 2018 USCAA National Championships on Wednesday afternoon, falling to second seeded, Florida College, 64-51.
UMFK hung tough throughout the game and ended the first quarter on an 11-0 run, after the Falcons had taken a 12-7 lead. From that point forward however, it would be increasingly difficult for the Bengals to get anything going offensively as they shot just 11-40 for the final three quarters and were out rebounded 51-39, including giving Florida College 20 offensive rebound looks.
UMFK’s defense would keep them in the game as they held Florida College to just 36% shooting. In the end, Florida College was a little more experienced and physical inside for the Bengals to handle.
USCAA leading scorer and first team All-American, Savana Jankowski led UMFK with 24 points on 8-14 shooting. Kallee Dowler was the only other double figure scorer with 10.
