CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men’s soccer used two second half goals to defeat UMaine-Farmington 2-0, on Tuesday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Ritchie Field.
Early in the game, Tom Samson (Waterville, Maine) set up two quality scoring chances for the Mariners, first in the fourth minute his cross found Dalton Moore (Hollis Center, Maine), but Moore was called offsides and the game remained scoreless.
Samson crossed another ball to teammates Moore and Matthew Caron (Scarborough, Maine) at 27:30 but neither player could get their foot on it.
The Mariners finally found the back of the net in the 61st minute when Henry Hersey (Greenville, Maine) dribbled the ball down the sideline and placed it on net to Caron, who tucked the ball into the net.
Less than six minutes later, Samson put the Mariners ahead 2-0 when he marched the ball into Beaver territory and found the back of the net beating UMF’s keeper Ronie Morales.
Kyle Townsend (Hampden, Maine) recorded three saves for the Mariners, in the victory and Morales ended the evening with six saves in the setback.
The Mariners improve to 5-9-1 overall and 4-3 in the NAC, while the Beavers fall to 4-10 on the season and 2-5 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action on Saturday at 3:30 pm, when they host Green Mountain College for Senior Day.
