WATERVILLE, Maine — Hannah Hearn scored a pair of goals and added an assist to lift the Colby College field hockey team to a 6-0 win over University of Maine at Farmington in non-conference play Wednesday night at Bill Alfond Field.
Meredith Keenan had one goal and one assist for the Mules (6-7 overall). Danielle Smith (, Merrill Read , and McKayla Blanch also tallied.
The Mules only led 1-0 at halftime despite a 15-1 margin in shots. Colby had a 28-5 shot advantage for the game and a 13-4 edge in penalty corners.
Smith put the Mules up 1-0 at 12:54 of the first half when she tracked down a cross from Hearn on the right side of the cage.
Hearn scored two goals in a span of 35 seconds to help the Mules pull away. Her first goal at 41:45 of the contest came on a direct path to the goal, using her speed off her stick-work to create space and hit a low shot into the left corner. The second goal was at 42:20 off a pass from Keenan on a play started by a penalty corner from Hearn, who has four goals and five assists.
Keenan made it 4-0 and scored her fifth goal of the season on a blast to the left corner. Read followed up at 62:05 with her seventh goal on a shot from in front. Blanch also had her seventh goal on a long blast from just inside the circle.
Riley Whitmyer had one save for her first collegiate shutout. Patty Smith had seven of her nine saves in the opening half for UMF
