LEICESTER, Mass. – University of Maine at Farmington field hockey (3-0) junior Emmah Spahr (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) recorded a hat trick in Saturday’s 6-0 non-conference shutout victory at Becker College (0-3).
UMF jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first six minutes after Jenessa Talarico (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) scored her first goal of the afternoon in the fourth minute with an assist coming from Emma Martineau (Greene, Maine/Leavitt). Less than two minutes later, Spahr posted her first goal of the game to double the Beavers’ lead. Talarico added her second goal of the half with two and a half minutes remaining to send UMF into the break with a 3-0 advantage.
Spahr and Talarico teamed up to open the final period and blew the game open. In a 32-second span, Spahr recorded two more scores with assists coming from Talarico on both goals. The duo only needed eight shots on goal to record five goals and two assists.
Nickyia Lovely added the Beavers’ sixth goal of the day in the 61st minute after Lauren Watson (Clinton, Maine/Lawrence) dished the assist.
Patty Smith (Gorham, Maine/Gorham) and Alyssa Arsenault (Winthrop, Maine/Winthrop) split time to earn the shutout win for UMF. Smith saved one shot in the first half while Arsenault came in relief to preserve the shutout in the second half.
UMF’s offense was firing on all cylinders today with 30 total shots and 21 shots on goal.
UMaine-Farmington hosts Southern Maine on Wednesday afternoon in the home opener.
