LEWISTON, Maine — Kirsten Pelletier threw a five-inning shutout in Game 1 and Payton Buxton tossed her first collegiate no-hitter in Game 2 as the Bates softball team swept a doubleheader against UMaine-Farmington 9-0 and 8-1 Tuesday afternoon at Lafayette Street Field.
Buxton (4-3) allowed only one walk in recording Bates’ second no-hitter of the season, following sophomore teammate Kirsten Pelletier’s no-hitter against North Central (Minn.) in the season opener. She also led Bates with four hits on the day.

Kirsten Pelletier evened her record at 7-7, collecting nine strikeouts over five innings and helping to end the game via the eight-run rule with two RBIs in the game. Pelletier allowed two hits and two walks in her fourth shutout of the season.
Bates scored in each inning, with three unearned runs in the first and two earned runs in the second off of UMF starter Kailyn Hill (1-7). Brianna McGrath gave up four runs in two innings of relief.
The Bobcats scored three runs in the first without the benefit of a hit, taking advantage of three errors by the Beavers. Russo led off with a walk and stole second base, and later scored on a muffed throw at first base. With two outs, Ahlholm reached on a throwing error, Panepinto scored on a wild pitch, and Ahlholm scored as Collette’s fly ball was dropped in center field.
Pelletier delivered a two-run single through the left side in the second inning to score Bass and Buxton for a 5-0 lead.
Bates added three runs in the third off of McGrath. Fitzgerald walked and later scored when India Woolmington reached on a throwing error. Buxton singled and later scored on a wild pitch, and Bass reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Russo’s infield single.
Bates will host Southern Maine in another non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday, starting at 3pm. UMF plays a doubleheader at Colby Wednesday at 5:30.
