ENGLEWOOD, Fla. — Leading by four (16-12) with 11:35 remaining, Mount Holyoke College fended off a late charge by the University of New England to take a 16-15 win in non-conference women’s lacrosse action Wednesday evening at Dever Park.

The victory gives the Lyons (1-5) a split in their two-game swing to Florida. UNE (3-3) suffered its second loss of the trip.

Charlotte Wagner had five goals to lead Mount Holyoke to victory. Mary LaVigne added four markers, including the game-winner with 11:35 on the clock. Leila Kouakou, Mazzie Meotti and Kaitlin Braz scored two goals apiece.

For UNE, rookie Anna Stowell notched four goals, while Nichole Carvalho had three. Korinne Bohunsky, Jocelyn Davee and Jolena Lampron each tallied twice.

After LaVigne gave the Lyons a 16-12 cushion, the Nor’easters scored three unanswered goals — including Stowell’s fourth of the day with just under three minutes to play — but were unable to grab the equalizer.

Bohunsky had a stellar day on the draw for UNE, racking up a total of nine. Olivia Carpenter paced the Nor’easters with three ground balls. Goalkeeper Maritza Nary had 11 saves.
