MILTON, Mass. — Nichole Carvalho scored a game-high five goals as the University of New England women’s lacrosse team closed the regular season with a 14-10 triumph over Curry College in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match played in the rain Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 25) at Walter Katz Field.
UNE, which will be seeded third for the upcoming CCC Championship, concludes the regular season with an overall mark of 9-7 and conference ledger of 6-2 for the second consecutive season. Curry wraps up its season with a 7-10 record (2-6 CCC).
Jocelyn Davee chipped in with three goals in the winning effort, while Korinne Bohunsky and Anna Stowell each had a pair. Brooke Kelleher dished out five assists to give her 32 for the season and leave her just one shy of the program single-season record held by Gina Newsome ’15. Kimberly Gosselin added four helpers.
Abby Carnevale paced Curry with three goals. Malorie Knowlton and Abby Dubel had two apiece.
Trailing 2-0 less than two minutes into the match, the Nor’easters scored six of the next seven goals to take a 6-3 advantage into halftime. UNE’s cushion got as large as eight (13-5) in the second frame before Curry closed by scoring five of the final six markers.
Jolena Lampron stuffed the stat sheet, finishing with six draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Bohunsky and Davee combined for seven caused turnovers, six ground balls and five draw controls. Winning goalkeeper Martiza Nary improved to 9-7 with a 10-save performance.
Rachel Smith totaled 12 stops between the pipes for the Colonels.
