LYNDON, Vermont – The Thomas College men’s basketball finished on a 19-4 run to steal an 85-79 victory on the road against North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent Lyndon State on Saturdayafternoon.
The Terriers improve their winning streak to three games at 11-10 (8-6 NAC) while the Hornets fall to 2-18 (2-12 NAC).
The two teams battled to an even 43-43 score throughout the first half. Freshman Angel Gonzalez (Orlando, Fla.) knocked down 4-of-5 shots from behind the arch while senior John Morgan (Sanford, Maine) added 11 points before the break. Ricky Shuford and Darren Williams Jr. combined for 29 points for the Hornets.
Lyndon looked to be in control in the second half as they found themselves up 75-66 with 4:40 remaining. The Terriers finished the game on a big 19-4 run led by nine points from sophomore Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) to take an 85-79 win.
Senior Carlos Gonzalez (Kennebunk, Maine) finished with a team-high 21 points along with 10 rebounds for a double-double while Angel Gonzalez wrapped up with 17 points for the Terriers. Mackinnon ended with 16 points and seven rebounds while Morgan finished in double figures with 15 points. Freshman Justin Butler (Orlando, Fla.) neared a triple-double performance with eight points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists.
Shuford netted a game-high 27 points and dished out six assists while Williams chipped in with 21 points and eight boards in the effort for Lyndon.
The Terriers will return home on Friday, February 9 as they face Castleton at 7:30 p.m.
