JOHNSON, Vt. – The Thomas College men’s soccer team shutout Johnson State College, 2-0, in a North Atlantic Conference match on Saturday afternoon at Minaert Field.
The Terriers improve to 4-3-1 (2-0-1 NAC) while the Badgers slip to 5-4 (1-1 NAC).
Thomas got on the board in the 24th minute when Michael Sanzari (Falmouth, Maine) collected a ball off of Johnson keeper Gerrit Lane and buried it home for the 1-0 lead.
Jack Gallagher (Camden, Maine) doubled the Terriers’ lead in the 32nd minute when he headed in a Nawfal El-Antri (Dorchester, Mass.) free kick taken from midfield to take the 2-0 lead.
The Badgers outshot the Terriers in the second half as both teams failed to score, ending in a 2-0 win for Thomas.
Lane was tagged with the loss, allowing two goals on seven shots. Jonathan Dutka (Durham, N.H.) earned the win, not facing a shot while in goal in the first half. He was replaced for the second half by John Villanueva (Gray, Maine), who stopped all four shots he faced.
Thomas outshot the Badgers 14-13 while Johnson held a 9-2 advantage in corners.
The Terriers will return to action on Saturday, September 30 as they travel to the University of Maine at Farmington for a 1:30 p.m. matchup.
