Conor Maguire and the Eagles wasted little time grabbing a lead they would hold onto for the duration of game one. Maguire singled on one of the first pitches of the game. Ryan Rebar, an out later, walked, which set the table for Sam Huston. The sophomore blasted a 1-0 pitch over the left field fence for his first career homerun. Rebar and Maguire scored on the round tripper. Christian Corneil singled and Alex Chapman was hit by a pitch. Logan Rogerson, with two outs, lined a ball into the left center gap scoring both Chapman and Corneil. The Eagles led 5-0 after the first.
In the bottom of the 2nd inning, Sam Huston crushed another homerun. It was a no doubter off of the bat. Husson’s catcher extended his team’s lead to 6-0 after two innings.
The Eagles padded their lead in the bottom of the 6th inning with a pair of bases loaded walks from Corneil and Chapman. The runs were both unearned due to an error by the Thomas second baseman. The 8-0 lead stood for the home team.
Ben Holmes (2-0) started the game and went 6.0 innings for the Eagles. He allowed zero runs while striking out five. Blake Slicer threw the 7th and final inning. Sam Huston provided the offense for Husson. He hit two homeruns while driving in four. Logan Rogerson pushed across two RBI for his squad, while Christian Corneil and Alex Chapman each chipped in one RBI in the victory.
Kyle Fletcher (0-3) took the loss for the Terriers. He allowed five earned runs in 0.2 innings of work. Jaicob Flores, Brandon Hubbard, and Nate Martin combined the finish the game. They allowed three runs (one earned) over the final 5.1 innings. Darren Kelly and Hank Vinall combined for five hits in the loss.
