Thomas Men's college basketball 74 at Green Mountain 63

POULTNEY, VT – The Thomas College men’s basketball team earned a 74-63 victory on the road Saturday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference matchup at Green Mountain College.

In the victory, the Terriers sit tied for third place in the NAC with a 10-11 (8-6 NAC) overall record while the Eagles fall to 10-10 (7-7 NAC).

The Terriers jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the first five minutes of the contest behind three-pointers from Jordan Derosby (Waterville, Maine / Waterville) and Ian King (Westbrook, Maine / Hebron Academy).  Midway through the half, the Terriers offense fell silent as Thomas Brown netted eight-straight points for the Eagles to give his team a 15-12 lead.

Later on in the first, the Terriers regained the lead and looked to extend as Nolan Smeeton knocked down consecutives jumpers for a 23-19 advantage for the Terriers.  Both teams struggled to finish the half with many missed opportunities.  Thomas entered the locker room up 27-26 after shooting 10-for-28 (35.7%) from the floor while Green Mountain finished at 9-for-27 (33.3%).

In the second, the Terriers held a small lead throughout the half, getting to the free throw line often and finishing 19-for-28 from the charity stripe.  Freshman Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine / Kennebunk) had a big half for the Terriers as he knocked down three three-pointers and went 6-for-7 at the line to finish with 15 points.  Brown led the Eagles with 13 points.

Down the stretch, King and Tailour Hall (Jacksonville, Florida / Edward White) iced the game with free throws to finish the scoring at 74-63.

Behind Mackinnon, Tyheem Simon (Far Rockaway, N.Y. / Lawrence) added 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists.  King contributed with nine points and three boards.

Brown held a game-high 22 points along with three rebounds for the Eagles in the loss.  Javier Lugris finished with a double-double at 15 points and 13 rebounds.
