POULTNEY, VT – The Thomas College women’s soccer team shutout Green Mountain College, 4-0, in a North Atlantic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers improve to 2-8 (2-3 NAC) overall on the season while the Eagles stay winless at 0-10-1 (0-3-1 NAC).
Jackie Woodward notched two goals in the first four minutes of play while Julia Smith tallied a goal and an assist.
Thomas got on the board in the 1st minute of action as Woodward won the ball just outside the six-yard box and fired a shot into the lower left corner of the net. Woodward connected again for her second of the game when she finished off a nice crossing pass near the goal mouth from Smith. Smith then extended the lead to 3-0 when her lobbed shot on net flew over the Eagle keepers’ outstretched arms into the top right corner.
Freshman Kayla Bess scored lone goal of the second half in the 75th minute to finish out the scoring on the afternoon.
Senior goalkeeper Paige Leary recorded zero saves in the shutout victory while Tyah Culp made 14 saves in the loss for the Eagles. Thomas outshot Green Mountain 36-1 and held a 5-0 advantage in corners.
