Clermont, Fla. – UMaine Farmington suffered a heart breaking loss against SUNY Potsdam in Clermont, Florida, on Monday afternoon by a score of 6-5 in the first game of a softball doubleheader. The Beavers also lost the second game by a score of 15-1.
The Beavers fell to 1-4 overall while Suny Potsdam moved to 3-1 on the year.
Anastasia Albright pitched 2.2 innings giving up 11 hits, 5 runs, three earned runs with one walk and one strikeout. Kailyn Hill pitched 4.1 innings, giving up 10 hits, 10 runs, five earned runs with one walk and three strikeouts.
Emma McCarthy led the Bears with four hits in five plate appearances with two RBI’s while Jordan Ott went 4-1 with two RBI’s and one run.
Brooke Falsion went 3-4 with three runs and one RBI. Alissa McCauley pitched seven innings with five hits, one earned run, two walks and five strikeouts.
UMF held the Bears scoreless for the first two innings. In the top of the third, Suny opened up the game with five runs. Chelsea Streeter started it off with a homerun to center followed by a single and a walk.
Angela Yodis then singled to score McCarthy followed by Falsion single to score Hyland. Condon then reached on an error, which scored Yodis.
In the top of the fourth, Emma McCarthy homered to center to give the Bears a 6-0 lead. Condon then scored when McCauley reached first on an error by the shortstop.
Alison Hamilton started the bottom of the sixth off with a double to left center followed by a Thompson single, which scored Hamilton. In the top of the seventh, the Bears opened the game up with eight runs on eight hits and two errors.
