BIDDEFORD, Maine — Captain Trevor Fleurent (SR/Biddeford, Maine) matched a school record with four goals — all in the first period — to power the University of New England to an 8-0 shutout of Suffolk University in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s ice hockey action Thursday night (Dec. 1) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The Nor’easters picked up their third win in four starts to improve to 4-3-1 (4-2-1 CCC), while the Rams slipped to 3-6-2 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play.
Fleurent’s four-goal evening tied the school single-game record he has a share of, as does his brother Brady Fleurent (SO/Biddeford, Maine) and Jared Melman ’15. Trevor Fleurent added an assist to finish with five points, and Brady Fleurent set-up four goals to tie the school’s single-game mark for assists.
Samuel Michaud (FY/Portland, Maine), Dylan Bengtson (SO/Coral Springs. Fla.), Blaise Healy (SR/Melrose, Mass.) and Liam Neuman (FY/Newmarket, Ontario) chipped in one goal apiece for the Nor’easters, who more than doubled Suffolk’s output in shots (50-23).
Tate Sproxton (FY/Surrey, British Columbia) earned the shutout in goal for UNE, totaling 23 saves.
The Rams had all three of their goaltenders in uniform see action. Michael Levine (SO/Clarendon Hill, Ill.) played just over half of the game and piled up 25 stops. Kevin Venturoso (SR/Franklin, Mass.) and Will Ribas (FY/Westwood, Mass.) combined for 17.
