KISSIMMEE, Florida –Saint Joseph’s College defeated Meredith 4-3 in a college softball game Thursday.
With two out in the top of the seventh, the Monks trailed 3-1 before scoring three runs off two hits and a Meredith error to claim a 4-3 edge. Tripp singled and later scored on the miscue and, with runners on the corners, Harrison stepped to the plate and delivered a two-run double to deep left-center to provide her team with the one-run lead.
The Avenging Angels had a chance to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh with a runner on second after a walk and a sac bunt, but SJC senior starter Kylie McFadden (Dover, N.H.) induced a harmless fly-out and a weakly hit ground-out to end the game and put a stop to the Monks’ five-game losing streak.
McFadden improved to 1-2 on the season after giving up three runs (two earned) off seven hits and two walks with a pair of punch-outs in a complete-game effort.
Meredith freshman starter Julia Cerasi (Apex, N.C.) falls to 3-3 after yielding four runs (one earned) off eight hits and two walks with two K’s in 6.2 innings. Junior Taylor Jackson (Hope Mills, N.C.) fanned the only batter she faced in 1/3 inning of relief.
Tripp continued to swing a hot bat, going 3-4 with two runs in the victory.
Harrison doubled and knocked in a pair.
Junior Maria Annuziata (Apex, N.C.) was 3-4 with a run and a stolen base.
Junior Erica Occena (Coats, N.C.) doubled and drove in three runs.
