BANGOR, Maine – Husson University sophomore Sadie Royer picked up the game winning goal scoring off her own rebounded shot in the 97th minute of the game in double overtime, to lead the Eagles to a 2-1 win over the Saint Joseph’s (Maine) Monks. With this non-conference victory at the John W. Winkin Sports Complex on Wednesday evening, the Eagles advanced to 3-2 on the season.

Not only did Royer score the golden goal, she also opened up the scoring on the night at 17:26 in the first half, capitalizing on a defensive save by Monk’s Hayley Winslow, followed by a hard shot from Eagle Shannon Ripley‘s stick.

The Monks attacked without hesitation in the second half, tying up the score 1-1 first four seconds. With a swift pass from Maddy Beaulieu for the assist, Libby Pomerleau sunk the ball into the back of the net to eventually push the match into overtime.

Husson goalie Anne Marie Provencal shut-down five shots by Saint Joseph’s (Maine) between both overtimes, tallying 12 total saves on the night. The Eagles kept Monk’s goalie Megan Baker busy in extra time, drawing 12 of her 19 saves throughout the game in those final 27 minutes.
