KEENE, N.H. – Junior Kendal Brown (Belmont, Mass.) scored two goals, one in each half, to lead the Keene State College Owls to a 4-0 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference field hockey game Wednesday night.
Earning its second straight win, Keene State remains undefeated in the Little East at 5-0 and improves to 8-3 overall. Southern Maine is 4-6 overall and an even 3-3 in the LEC.
Brown scored her first goal of the season in the 11th minute to give KSC a 1-0 lead in the first half – an advantage Keene State would keep until the break. After the intermission, KSC quickly doubled its lead as sophomore Julia Babbitt (Haddam, Conn.) scored her sixth goal of the season just 31 seconds into the second half. Brown scored her second goal of the game and second of the season with the 46th minute before the Owls’ leading scorer senior Sami Smith (Merrimack, N.H.) picked up her conference leading 18th goal of the season for the 4-0 final.
KSC outshot the Huskies decisively 24-0, forcing USM senior goalkeeper Amanda Kasbohm (York, Maine) to make nine saves in the loss. KSC Gwendolyn Thayer earned the win playing 52:39 before giving way to Kendra Lonergan for the final 17:21. Neither KSC goalkeeper made a save.
